Description: Antique print titled 'Antiquus dierum sedit - S. Francisca Romana'. Scarce plate showing the 'Ancient of Days' i.e. God from the bible book of Daniel. Below Frances of Rome, Obl.S.B., (Italian: Santa Francesca Romana). After one of the frescoes Domenico Zampieri painted for the Abbey of Grottaferrata (near Rome). This Abbey was founded by St. Nilus of Rossano and St.Bartolomeus in 1004. The frescoes were commissioned from Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri) by Cardinal Odoardo Farnese; the titular Abbot of this Abbey. This print originates from 'Picturae Dominici Zampierii, vulgo Domenichino, quae extant in sacello sacrae aedi Cryptoferratensi adjuncto tabulis aeneis incisae' published 1762.
Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Carol Gregory' after 'Domenico Zampieri'. Domenico Zampieri, known as Domenichino for his shortness (October 21, 1581 – April 6, 1641), was an Italian Baroque painter of the Bolognese or Carracci School of painters.
