Description: Plate 2: 'Afteeckeninge hoe het Eylandt Anabon, by de Hollanders wert ingenomen ende gheplondert.' (Depiction how the island of Ambon was conquered by the Dutch and plundered.) VOC defeat of Ambon in october 1602. Rare.

This rare plate originates from: 'Historische Verhael Vande Reyse inde Oost-Indien, met 15 Schepen voor Reeckeninghe vande vereenichde Gheoctroyeerde Oost-Indische Compagnie onder het beleydt van den Vroomen ende Manhaften Wybrandt van Waerwijck ... (Story of the voyage to the East Indies with 15 ships for the VOC under Admiral Wybrandt van Waerwijck and Vice-Admiral Sebaldt de Weert.), which was part of the monumental work by Isaac Commelin (1598-1676) on VOC voyages: 'Begin ende voortgangh van de Vereenighde Nederlantsche Geoctroyeerde Oost-Indische Companie....', published by Joannes Janssonius, Amsterdam, 1646.

Artists and Engravers: Casparus Commelin (1636-1693), publisher and bookseller in Amsterdam. Engraver/etcher unknown.
