.. Antique Print of a Woman from Ancient Britain by Tonson (1712)

Description: Rare antique print depicting a woman from Ancient Britain. This print originates from 'C. Julii Csaris quæ extant. Accuratissime cum Libris Editis & MSS. optimis Collata, Recognita & Correcta. Accesserunt Annotationes Samuelis Clarke, S.T.P. Item Indices Locorum, Rerumque & Verborum Utilissimæ', published by J. Tonson. A rare work of Caesar’s commentaries on the Gallic wars and the civil wars.

Artists and Engravers: Jacob Tonson, sometimes referred to as Jacob Tonson the Elder (1655–1736), was an eighteenth-century English bookseller and publisher. In 1703 Tonson went to the Dutch Republic to obtain paper and engravings for the fine edition of Caesar's Commentaries, which was ultimately published under Samuel Clarke's care in 1712.
