Description: Antique print, titled: 'Virtus Viri' - This plate shows the Assyrian Queen Semiramis hunting lions. A woody landscape with the Assyrian queen on horseback at right, accompanied by other horsemen, a group of hunters showing two dead lions at left, a biga loaded with weapons and a group of camels in left background , engraved by Gerardum ( Gerard) de Lairesse and published by Gerard Valk in c. 1700.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Gerard de Lairesse' after an anonymous artist. Gerard de Lairesse (Liege; 1640-1711) was a Belgian Golden Age engraver, painter and art theorist. Painter and etcher. Born at Liege, 1660 to Berlin, 1665 to Amsterdam; moved to The Hague around 1684.
