.. Antique Print of Harmonillus turning into a Lemon Tree by Ferrari (1646)

Description: Antique print of Harmonillus turning into a lemon tree. This print originates from 'Hesperides, sive, De malorvm avreorvm cvltura et vsv libri quatuor' by Giovanni Battista Ferrari, published in 1646. This print is an illustration for the introduction by G.B. Ferraris book on citrus fruits. The author tries to explain the origin of the different lemon varieties through self-invented mythological stories.

Artists and Engravers: Giovanni Baptista (also Battista) Ferrari (1584 in Siena – 1 February 1655 in Siena), was an Italian Jesuit and professor in Rome, a botanist, and an author of illustrated botanical books and a Syriac-Latin dictionary.
