.. Antique Print with a scene near a Riverbank by Lepautre (c.1660)

Description: Antique print, untitled. Scene on a riverbank opposite the outside of an unidentified French court, with a palace to the left. Several figures in the foreground (swimmers, a fisherman and a shepherd), as well as on the court.

Source unknown, to be determined.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jean Lepautre' after 'Jean Le Blond'. Jean le Pautre / Lepautre (1618-1682) was a French designer and engraver. Le Pautre was an apprentice to a carpenter and builder. In addition to learning mechanical and constructive work, he developed considerable skill with the pencil. His designs, innumerable in quantity and exuberant in content, consisted mainly of ceilings, friezes, chimney-pieces, doorways and mural decorations. He also devised fire-dogs, sideboards, cabinets, console tables, mirrors and other pieces of furniture. Jean le Blond (1635-1709?) was a printseller and painter in Paris.
