.. Antique Print of Pike Hunting by Ridinger (1768)

Description: Antique print titled 'In der Grafschafft Wolfstein zu Pyrbaum hatt sich vor etlich 40 Jahren folgender wahre Casus zugetragen (..)'. During the transport of a large pike, it squirmed out of the transport basket. The men carrying it then return (with some help and torches) only to find a fox bit by the pike. This print originates from 'Virtute et Ingenio. Genaue und richtige Vorstellung der wundersamste Hirsche sowohl als anderer besondere Thiere'.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Martin Elias Ridinger' after 'Johann Elias Ridinger'. Martin Elias Ridinger (1730-1781) and his brother of Johann Jakob Ridinger (1736-1784) both worked with their father Johann Elias Ridinger. Johann Elias Ridinger (1698-1767) was a German painter, engraver, draughtsman and publisher. He is one of the most famous German engravers of animals, in particular horses, hunting scenes and dogs. He was trained in painting by Resch and Falch, and was taught engraving by Georg Philipp Rugendas.
