  • Condition: Good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Two small tears in the left margin (closed with acid-free archival tape). Foxing and small creases in the margins. Creasing along the middle fold. A dampstain in the lower margin/bottom edge of the image. Later hand colouring. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study image carefully.

Description: Antique map titled 'Frisiae Dominium vernacule Friesland, verdeeld in de Hoofd-deelen van Oostergoo, Westergoo en Sevenwolden, Als ook der XI Steden Zynde noch onderscheiden in XXX Grietenijen.' A map of the Dutch province Friesland as divided in the three main parts (Oostergo, Westergo and Zevenwolden), as well as in 30 Grietenijen. An inset map in the top edge shows the four Wadden Islands belonging to Friesland: Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. Published by Tobias Conrad Lotter, circa 1760.

Artists and Engravers: Tobias Lotter was born 1717 in Germany. He became a publisher and engraver in Augsburg. He was engaged by Matthäus Seutter the elder as an engraver and married his daughter. He also was successful with his own business and became one of the better known German cartographers. After his death in 1777, the business was continued by his son Matthias Albrecht Lotter.
