About this sheet
Vermont on a two-page spread from Rand, McNally and Co.'s atlas, lettered "Rand, McNally & Co.'s Vermont" and numbered 96 and 97, c.1888. The map is printed in black with railroads and boundaries in color. A map of Boston is printed on the reverse.
The state runs the full height of the sheet, with Lake Champlain along the western edge and the neighboring New York and New Hampshire lettered at the sides. Quebec is partly shown at the top. The Green Mountains are drawn in fine hachures along the center, and the county names are lettered in large capitals across the state, among them Windsor and Windham. Red and blue lines trace the railroads through the valleys, and rivers branch through the hills to the Connecticut at the right.
The old description lists Burlington, Montpelier, Rutland, Brattleboro, St. Albans, Barre, Bennington and Windsor among the towns. The railroad network shown links the market towns of the valleys to the lines of the neighboring states and to Canada.
