A refined and atmospheric pair of original maritime etchings by the British artist George Stratton Ferrier (1852–1912), published in London in 1879 as part of The Portfolio: An Artistic Periodical by Seeley, Jackson & Halliday.
These elegant compositions capture the quiet poetry of coastal life in late 19th-century Britain. The upper plate, titled A Calm Day, presents a tranquil seascape with sailing vessels gently dispersed across still waters, their reflections subtly rendered through delicate etched lines. The composition conveys stillness and balance, with a restrained yet highly refined use of light and atmosphere.
The lower plate, Fishing Boats Returning from the Sea, offers a slightly more animated scene, depicting a fleet of fishing vessels approaching shore.
