A beautiful original antique French costume print depicting King Charles VII of France in magnificent ceremonial military armour, attended by two armoured retainers preparing his equipment.
This plate originates from the French series Costumes civils et militaires des Français à travers les siècles, published in Paris by F. Roy and conceived as a scholarly visual survey of French civil and military dress across the centuries.
The print is titled "Charles VII en Costume Militaire d'Apparat" and is based on a historic tapestry from Reims Cathedral dated 1460. Charles VII (1403–1461), remembered for reclaiming much of France during the final phase of the Hundred Years' War with the support of Joan of Arc, is shown in richly gilded ceremonial armour mounted on an elaborately caparisoned horse decorated with the royal fleur-de-lis.
The exceptional detail of the armour, heraldic horse trappings and military attendants makes this one of the finest and most decorative plates from the series. It is equally appealing to collectors of medieval history, military costume, heraldry and French royal history.
This is a genuine original antique print published circa 1860. It is not a modern reproduction.

Condition:
Good antique condition with age-related toning, scattered foxing, light handling marks and minor wear to the sheet edges, including small binding traces along the left margin. Please study the images carefully as they form part of the condition description.
