Antique Honey Buzzard Bird Prints by Lilian M. Medland, Set of Two, 1908
A striking set of two original antique ornithological plates depicting the Honey Buzzard in two contrasting studies.
The first print presents the bird perched upright on a leafy branch, allowing the distinctive form and plumage of the species to be studied in detail. The second is a more animated natural-history scene showing the bird on the ground surrounded by flying insects, reflecting the Honey Buzzard’s specialised feeding behaviour.
These companion plates were illustrated by Lilian M. Medland for Charles Stonham’s important publication The Birds of the British Islands, published in London by Grant Richards in the early 20th century. Together, they combine a formal species portrait with a behavioural study, creating a particularly engaging pair for collectors of antique ornithology and natural-history art.
The monochrome treatment, delicate tonal modelling and restrained Edwardian character make the prints suitable for a library, study, hallway, country-house interior or sophisticated gallery wall.
These are original antique prints dating from circa 1908. They are over 100 years old and are not modern reproductions.
