Antique Greenland Gyrfalcon Bird Print by Lilian M. Medland, circa 1908
The plate depicts the pale Greenland form of the Gyrfalcon, historically also known as the Greenland Falcon or White Falcon. A finely detailed original ornithological plate depicting a pale bird of prey, shown perched on a rocky outcrop in a calm and highly decorative composition.
The print was created by Lilian M. Medland for Charles Stonham’s important natural-history publication The Birds of the British Islands. It was published in London by Grant Richards in the early 20th century and forms part of a beautifully illustrated series devoted to British bird life.
The restrained monochrome palette and sensitive naturalistic rendering give the piece a quiet elegance, making it especially suitable for a study, library, hallway, country-house interior or collection of antique natural-history prints.
This is an original antique print dating from circa 1908. It is over 100 years old and is not a modern reproduction.
