This finely engraved original antique copperplate print depicts six allegorical seated figures from the decorative program of the Salle de Festin (Banquet Hall) at the Château de Fontainebleau. Gracefully arranged in two rows of three, the figures embody the elegant Mannerist style introduced to the French court by the renowned Italian artist Francesco Primaticcio (1504–1570).
Originally created during the reign of King Francis I, Primaticcio's monumental decorative schemes established the Fontainebleau School, one of the most influential artistic movements of the French Renaissance. These allegorical figures, framed within the architectural decoration of the Banquet Hall, combine classical ideals with refined elegance and expressive poses that became hallmarks of sixteenth-century court art.
The engraving was executed by the distinguished French architect and engraver Louis-Pierre Baltard (1764–1846) and published in Paris in 1803 as part of the celebrated Napoleonic-era publication Paris et ses Monuments, mesurés, dessinés et gravés. This monumental work documented France's architectural and artistic heritage through meticulously engraved copperplates of exceptional quality.
The print is both an important historical document and an elegant decorative work, making it highly desirable for collectors of French Renaissance art, architectural engravings, and classical decorative prints.
