Victorian Estate Views – Scone Palace, Witley Court, Glanusk Park
This elegant set of four original Victorian architectural prints depicts notable British aristocratic residences and historic estates across Scotland, England, and Wales. The views were issued in the mid-19th-century series Picturesque Views of Seats of Noblemen and Gentlemen of Great Britain and Ireland, published in London by William Mackenzie. The series was designed to document the great country houses of Britain during the Victorian era, combining architectural accuracy with the romantic landscape tradition that celebrated the grandeur of aristocratic estates.
Printed as finely detailed lithographs and finished with delicate contemporary hand-coloring, the compositions place each residence within sweeping parkland landscapes. Lakes, gardens, and surrounding countryside emphasize the scale and elegance of the houses while reflecting the Victorian fascination with picturesque scenery and noble estates.

Scone Palace, Perthshire, Scotland
Scone Palace near Perth is one of Scotland’s most historically significant royal sites. For centuries it was the traditional location where the Kings of Scots were crowned upon the Stone of Destiny. The present palace largely dates from the early 19th century and was built in a Gothic Revival style for the Earls of Mansfield. The estate remains privately owned and is open to visitors, surrounded by extensive parkland and gardens along the River Tay.
Witley Court, Worcestershire
Witley Court near Great Witley was one of the most magnificent Victorian country houses in England. The estate reached its greatest splendor during the 19th century when the house was expanded into a grand Italianate palace famous for its elaborate gardens and fountains. Although much of the house was destroyed by fire in 1937, the dramatic ruins and gardens survive today under the care of English Heritage.
Glanusk Park, Powys, Wales
Glanusk Park lies in the scenic Usk Valley near Crickhowell within the Brecon Beacons region of Wales. The estate became the seat of the Bailey family in the 19th century and was known for its elegant Gothic-style mansion surrounded by landscaped parkland and views of the surrounding hills. While the main house was demolished in the 20th century, the estate remains a well-known historic landscape hosting cultural events and outdoor gatherings.
Burton Agnes Hall, East Yorkshire
Burton Agnes Hall near Bridlington is one of England’s finest surviving Elizabethan manor houses. Built in the early 17th century by Sir Henry Griffith, the house is celebrated for its symmetrical brick façade and beautifully preserved interiors. The estate remains privately owned and is open to visitors, with gardens and parkland forming an important part of the historic Yorkshire landscape.
