A decorative set of three original antique chromolithographs from Albert Charles Auguste Racinet’s celebrated publication L’Ornement polychrome. Cent planches en couleurs, or et argent, published by Firmin Didot in Paris in 1873.
This selected group brings together two richly colored Medieval ornament plates and one Renaissance plate, offering a beautiful survey of historic European decorative design. The plates feature illuminated manuscript-style borders, floral and foliate ornament, arabesques, architectural panels, jewel-like color fields, scrolling vines, grotesque-inspired details, and finely composed decorative motifs.
Racinet’s L’Ornement polychrome was one of the great nineteenth-century reference works on historic ornament and became an important sourcebook for architects, decorators, designers, craftsmen, and collectors. Its plates were admired for their exceptional chromolithographic printing, vivid coloration, and careful documentation of ornamental styles from antiquity through the Renaissance and later periods.
The three prints work especially well as a decorative ensemble. Their strong colors, historic subject matter, and balanced compositions make them suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
These are original nineteenth-century chromolithographs from the 1873 Paris folio publication and are not modern reproductions.
