A beautiful set of three original antique chromolithographs illustrating the evolution of European ornamental design from the Middle Ages through Celtic decoration to the Renaissance. Published in Paris by Firmin Didot & Cie as part of Albert Racinet's celebrated masterpiece, L'Ornement Polychrome, these plates represent one of the finest nineteenth-century surveys of historic decorative arts.
This carefully curated trio presents three distinct yet complementary traditions of European ornament. One plate showcases richly colored medieval architectural and geometric patterns inspired by Gothic decoration.
