Original early 20th-century French fashion design depicting an elaborate arrangement of fur pelts, bands and decorative trimmings intended for fashionable garments and accessories.
The composition features long cascading pelts in contrasting shades of black, grey, cream and white, combined with patterned and textured sections of fur arranged in overlapping layers. The large grey background panel gives the composition a particularly strong and graphic appearance.
The design demonstrates the variety of furs and decorative treatments available for collars, cuffs, borders and other luxury garment trimmings during the early 20th century.
The sheet belongs to a series of French designs devoted to “Pelleteries diverses et bandes pour garnitures” – various furs and bands for trimmings – providing an interesting record of luxury fashion and textile design during the Belle Époque.
