One of the most dynamic compositions from the series, this hand-colored engraving captures the peril and excitement of nineteenth-century whaling. Rowing boats struggle against powerful seas as a harpooned whale erupts dramatically from the water, while a steam vessel looms in the background.
Executed after a design by Édouard Traviès and engraved by Beyer, the print was published by Furne in Paris around 1840. It exemplifies the period's fascination with maritime adventure and the global whaling industry, combining documentary detail with exceptional artistic flair.
