About this sheet

Man from Murcia, Spain – Hand-Colored Lithograph by Markaert, c.1845
This hand-colored lithograph depicts a man from Murcia in southeastern Spain, wearing regional dress with sash, vest, and headscarf. The pose suggests everyday rural life rather than ceremony.

Produced for Wahlen’s ethnographic series, the plate illustrates the diversity of Spanish regional costume during the 19th century. Markaert’s restrained composition and careful coloring emphasize texture and fabric.

Condition report:
Light foxing; even age toning.

Framing tips:
Works well in a simple contemporary frame with a neutral mat.
