An antique print from the Dutch translation of the travel accounts by Captain James Cook, titled "Reizen rondom de Waereld," which translates to "Voyages Around the World." This particular print, titled 'Oude Gedenktekenen op het Paasch-Eiland,' translates to 'Ancient Monuments on Easter Island.' It depicts the iconic Moai statues of Easter Island (Rapa Nui), which is a part of Chile.
J.D. Pasteur was responsible for translating Cook's voyages into Dutch, making the incredible stories of Cook's explorations accessible to the Dutch-speaking public. The work was published by the collaborative effort of Honkoop, Allart en Van Cleef, which were notable publishing houses active at the time.
