Antique French Architectural Print Remise de Locomotives by Pierre Chabat c.1900
This antique architectural print, titled Remise de Locomotives, was designed by the French architect Pierre Chabat and originates from the celebrated series La Brique et la Terre Cuite (The Brick and Terracotta), published in the late 19th century to around 1900. The plate (Pl. XIV, 2e Série) illustrates a carefully designed locomotive shed, demonstrating the integration of structural utility with decorative brick and terracotta architecture.
The print features the principal façade, detailed floor plans of both the ground floor and first floor, and sectional as well as elevation views of the structure. The locomotive shed is presented as both functional and aesthetically refined, with polychrome brick patterns, truss-work, and chimney arrangements that exemplify 19th-century French industrial design.
