Chambre Orientale La Cheminée Ottoman Interior Print Henry d'Allemagne
A remarkable original antique print titled "Chambre Orientale – La Cheminée" (Oriental Room – The Fireplace), originating from the collection of the renowned French art historian, collector, and bibliographer Henry-René d'Allemagne.
The composition presents a richly appointed Ottoman interior, centered around an impressive conical fireplace (ocak), intricately decorated and framed by magnificent blue-and-white wall tiles inspired by traditional İznik ceramics. The surrounding wooden paneling incorporates elegant built-in cupboards and niches (dolap), displaying an extensive collection of oriental metalwork, ewers, ceramics, and glass vessels. Along both sides of the room are raised wooden seating platforms (sedir), covered with carpets and cushions in the traditional Ottoman manner.
The caption beneath the image identifies the setting as the right-hand side of the second floor (2me Étage – Côté droit en entrant), providing a valuable documentary glimpse into one of the celebrated Oriental interiors recorded by d'Allemagne during his travels and studies of Middle Eastern decorative arts.
Henry-René d'Allemagne (1863–1950) was one of France's foremost historians of decorative arts, and his publications remain important references for collectors, scholars, and designers interested in Islamic and Ottoman material culture. Prints from his works are increasingly appreciated for their exceptional detail, historical significance, and decorative appeal.
