The lithograph originates from the 1842 publication *Der Rittersaal: Eine Geschichte des Ritterthums*, authored by Friedrich Martin von Reibisch and annotated by Dr. Franz Kottenkamp.
The plate depicts:
1. On the left, a highly decorated suit of 'tournament armor', adorned with scalloped red accents and intricate golden trim. The vibrant detailing along the pauldrons (shoulder guards), tassets (thigh protection), and cuirass (chest armor) highlights its ceremonial role in tournaments, where knights competed in displays of skill and pageantry.
2. On the right, a robust suit of 'parade armor', featuring a polished steel finish complemented by a flowing red sash.
