Description
This original hand-colored ethnographic print depicts the inhabitants of "De Haven der Franschen" (French Harbor), a location associated with the North Pacific explorations of the late eighteenth century. The scene portrays an indigenous family group within a rustic shelter, offering European audiences a glimpse of daily life in one of the remote regions encountered by explorers and traders along the northwest coast of North America.
The composition was drawn by J. Kuyper and engraved by L. Portman, artists known for their illustrations of peoples and cultures described in voyage accounts and geographical works. The image presents a seated family wearing garments made from animal skins and furs, accompanied by domestic tools and household objects. Such illustrations were intended to document the appearance, clothing, customs, and material culture of indigenous communities encountered during the great age of exploration.

Condition Report
Light age toning throughout. Scattered foxing and minor staining in the margins. Small edge losses and wear along the sheet edges consistent with age. Image remains strong and attractive with original hand color.
