This elegant trio of hand-colored botanical engravings from 1902 portrays three distinct members of the *Sedum* genus — *Sedum sexangulare* (Insipid Stone-crop), *Sedum eu-reflexum* (Yellow Stone-crop), and *Sedum albescens* (Glaucous Stone-crop). These low-growing succulents, noted for their resilience and vivid blooms, are rendered here with a remarkable combination of scientific precision and artistic delicacy.
The first plate, Insipid Stone-crop, depicts a compact alpine species with dense, cylindrical leaves and small star-shaped yellow flowers, its form neatly balanced between fine roots and flowering sprays. The central plate, Yellow Stone-crop, presents a taller and more upright species with bright golden blossoms clustered atop a slender stem tinged with red, emphasizing both the strength and fragility of this sun-loving plant. The third image, Glaucous Stone-crop, is characterized by its pale green leaves and soft yellow blooms, subtly distinguished by the waxy or “glaucous” hue of its foliage — a perfect example of the variation within the *Sedum* family.
