Jacques Salomon François Joseph Léon de Herckenrode (1818 - 1880) was a Belgian archivist, genealogist and heraldist. He is still regarded as an authority in the field of genealogical research into noble families in Belgium. Jacques-Salomon Fr.J.L. de Herckenrode received the hereditary title of baron on 11 June 1846. The zu (de) Herckenrode family was an old noble family, descending from Ritter Wolfroid (11th century) from Brandenburg and settled in the middle of the 17th century in the region of Limburg and Leuven (Brabant). A descendant of the family, Baron Jean, was mayor of Leuven and married to Baroness Jeanne Maria Claire d'Udekem, a great-great aunt of HRH Princess Mathilde of Belgium.
