This powerful antique engraving titled “The II Epistle of St. Paul to Timothy” depicts the Apostle Paul seated with a halo, holding a quill and scroll, symbolising his final teachings and writings before his impending martyrdom. Above him in the sky, surrounded by radiant clouds, is a crowned stone tablet, representing the eternal reward and divine authority of his teachings. At the bottom, the caption reads: “St. Paul foretels his own Death & Martyrdom, & warns Timothy against Hereticks.” To the left side of the image, broken chains and a shackle lie on the ground, further symbolising Paul’s imprisonment and ultimate liberation through faith.
