This refined chromolithograph depicts a richly ornamented Crucifixion scene rendered in the style of medieval and Byzantine-inspired devotional imagery, published in Munich in 1874 by F. X. Zettler. Issued as part of the celebrated portfolio Ausgewählte Kunstwerke aus dem Schatze der Reichen Capelle in der königlichen Residenz zu München, the print documents the ecclesiastical treasures preserved within the Reiche Kapelle (Rich Chapel) of the Munich Residenz during the reign of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The publication aimed to preserve and disseminate the artistic heritage of the Bavarian royal court, highlighting the craftsmanship and spiritual symbolism embodied in its sacred objects and artworks.
