.. Antique Print of Saint Eustachius and Saint Odoardus by Capallan (1762)

Description: Antique print titled 'S. Eustathius - S. Odoardus'. Scarce plate showing Saint Eustachius/Eustace and Saint Odoardus. After one of the frescoes Domenico Zapieri painted for the Abbey of Grottaferrata (near Rome). This Abbey was founded by St. Nilus of Rossano and St.Bartolomeus in 1004. The frescoes were commissioned from Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri) by Cardinal Odoardo Farnese; the titular Abbot of this Abbey. This print originates from 'Picturae Dominici Zampierii, vulgo Domenichino, quae extant in sacello sacrae aedi Cryptoferratensi adjuncto tabulis aeneis incisae' published 1762.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'A. Capellan' after 'Domenico Zampieri'. Antonio Capellan (Venice, ca. 1740– Rome, 1793) was an Italian engraver, active in a Neoclassical style. Domenico Zampieri, known as Domenichino for his shortness (October 21, 1581 – April 6, 1641), was an Italian Baroque painter of the Bolognese or Carracci School of painters.
