Description: Antique print titled 'Bma Virgo S. S. Nilum, et Bartholomæum pomo aureo donat'. Scarce plate of Saint Nilus and Saint Bartholomew kneeling for the Holy Virgin flanked by angels. After one of the frescoes Domenico Zampieri painted for the Abbey of Grottaferrata (near Rome). This Abbey was founded by St. Nilus of Rossano and St.Bartolomeus in 1004. The frescoes were commissioned from Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri) by Cardinal Odoardo Farnese; the titular Abbot of this Abbey. This print originates from 'Picturae Dominici Zampierii, vulgo Domenichino, quae extant in sacello sacrae aedi Cryptoferratensi adjuncto tabulis aeneis incisae' published 1762.
Artists and Engravers: Made by 'F. Bartolozzi' after 'Domenico Zampieri'. Francesco Bartolozzi (Florence, 21 September 1727 – 7 March 1815, Lisbon) was an Italian engraver, whose most productive period was spent in London. Domenico Zampieri, known as Domenichino for his shortness (October 21, 1581 – April 6, 1641), was an Italian Baroque painter of the Bolognese or Carracci School of painters.
