This striking 18th-century engraving, titled 'The Glorious Defeat of the Invincible Spanish Armada by the English Fleet, between Dover & Calais, in the Reign of Queen Elizabeth, 1588,' commemorates one of the most celebrated naval victories in British history.

The scene captures the intense drama of the battle. English fire ships wreak havoc on the Spanish fleet, which is depicted in the chaotic waters with towering plumes of smoke and fire engulfing the background. The engraving masterfully conveys the destructive power of the attack and the peril of the Spanish galleons as they are battered by flames, cannon fire, and turbulent seas.
