Description: Antique print titled 'Arena of Astley's Amphitheatre'. Arena and facade of Astley's Amphitheatre, the 1804 building, which was demolished in the 1890s, stood south of Westminster Bridge. A circus ring is shown in the position of the stalls, with performers here and on the stage, the audience being confined to the boxes. A smaller engraving shows the front of the theatre. This print originates from Wilkinson's two volume work entitled 'Londina Illustrata:Graphic and Historical memorials …in the cities and suburbs of London and Westminster'.
