Based on an original sketch by William Prinsep, a British merchant and artist active in Singapore during the 1830s and 1840s, this view offers a compelling visual record of the early colonial settlement during its formative decades.
The composition looks southeast across the Singapore River and harbor, capturing a lively and expanding port city at the height of its early development under British rule.
