Original architectural lithograph from Alexandre M. Raymond's celebrated publication *L'Art Islamique en Orient – IIe Partie*, illustrating an ancient wooden ceiling (plafond antique) from Yenişehir in northwestern Anatolia, dated to approximately 1340.
The composition presents a measured study of an early Anatolian coffered ceiling rendered at a scale of 1:10. The design combines a broad border of small square coffers with a central field of repeating elongated diamond motifs, demonstrating the refined geometric principles inherited from Seljuk art and carried into the formative period of Ottoman architecture.
The rhythmic repetition of forms creates a sense of harmony and infinite extension, reflecting the mathematical sophistication characteristic of Islamic decorative traditions. Such wooden ceilings adorned important residences and religious buildings throughout medieval Anatolia, where craftsmanship, geometry, and symbolism merged into a unified architectural language.
