Detailed 19th-century engraving titled Valparaiso, published in 1867. The panoramic view captures Chile’s principal port city from an elevated hillside, looking across the bay toward the harbor crowded with sailing ships and steamers. In the foreground, palm trees and rural paths with figures and pack animals contrast with the dense urban sprawl of the port city beyond. Engraved by Ed. Willmann and printed by Ch. Chardon, Paris, this engraving belongs to a series of Latin American city views created for European audiences fascinated by the Pacific world.
