This finely engraved panoramic plate presents three continuous views along the Nile River, produced in the immediate aftermath of Napoleon Bonaparte’s Egyptian expedition and published in Paris around 1802. The composition forms part of the earliest visual documentation of Egypt created for a European audience based on direct observation, and it played a decisive role in shaping nineteenth-century perceptions of the Nile landscape.

The plate is arranged as three elongated horizontal panoramas, each capturing a distinct stretch of the river. Feluccas glide across the water, palm-lined banks frame distant settlements, and minarets rise above the low skyline, anchoring the scenes geographically and culturally. In the lower panorama, the atmosphere shifts dramatically as naval vessels engage in combat, with billowing smoke and clustered masts suggesting a moment of military confrontation during the campaign. Condition report:
Good antique condition. Light overall age toning to the paper, consistent with early 19th-century impressions. Minor scattered foxing. Two small tears outside platemark. Plate mark clearly visible. Image remains crisp with strong contrast.

This panoramic engraving benefits from a wide horizontal frame. A dark walnut or ebonised frame paired with an ivory or warm light-gray mat enhances the delicacy of the line work. Museum glass is recommended to preserve the subtle tonal variations and protect the paper.
