She wears a long red tunic with side slits, revealing layers of green and blue beneath, paired with voluminous blue trousers that fall loosely to her ankles. On her head she wears a wide straw hat, tied with ribbons under her chin, while her hair is neatly arranged beneath a blue wrap. Barefoot, she stands with a calm demeanor, reflecting the simplicity and grace of daily dress.
Cochinchina was one of the regions of Vietnam that fascinated Europeans in the 19th century, particularly as French colonial ambitions in Southeast Asia grew during this period.
