A charming and beautifully matched set of eight original antique botanical chromolithographs published in Germany in 1897 as part of the renowned Atlas der Alpenflora (Atlas of Alpine Flora). Issued by the German and Austrian Alpine Association, these finely printed botanical plates document rare and characteristic flowering plants of the European Alps with exceptional scientific accuracy and subtle naturalistic coloring.
Edited by Dr. Palla of the University of Graz, the illustrations were based on original botanical studies by the celebrated Austrian artist Anton Hartinger and reproduced using the advanced photolithographic process developed by Nenke & Ostermaier of Dresden. The publication ranks among the finest late nineteenth-century botanical atlases devoted to Alpine flora.

Together these plates present an outstanding survey of alpine members of the Veronica genus, concluding with the rare and highly distinctive Wulfenia carinthiaca, one of the botanical treasures of the Austrian Alps.
Each print retains its original German title together with habitat and flowering information, providing valuable botanical and historical context. Their restrained color palette, elegant composition, and scientific precision make them equally suitable for collectors of botanical art, Alpine subjects, natural history, and nineteenth-century scientific illustration.
Displayed together in two rows of four, the prints create a sophisticated botanical gallery wall. Condition:
Good overall condition with age-related toning to the paper. Minor foxing, light spotting, occasional edge wear, and traces of former binding along one margin, consistent with their origin from a bound nineteenth-century volume. Colors remain rich and well preserved. Please study the images carefully.
