About this sheet

1929 Swedish Ornithology Lithographs Pair – Long-Tailed Duck Seasonal Study

This elegant pair of original Swedish ornithological lithographs, published in 1929 as part of the distinguished Svenska Fåglar Efter Naturen Och På Sten Ritade series, depicts the Long-Tailed Duck (Harelda hyemalis) in both summer and winter plumage. The compositions combine scientific precision with refined decorative balance, characteristic of early 20th-century Scandinavian natural history illustration.

Each print was drawn directly from nature and produced using fine lithographic techniques, resulting in delicate tonal transitions and exceptionally crisp detailing. The neutral palette and graceful elongated tail feathers create a sophisticated visual rhythm, making this pair particularly appealing for modern interiors as well as traditional collections.

Presented as a complementary seasonal study, the images highlight the dramatic transformation between plumage states while maintaining stylistic harmony. This symmetry gives the pair strong wall presence and makes it ideal for interior designers seeking museum-quality natural history imagery with a calm Nordic aesthetic.

These are original prints from the year of publication (1929), not later reproductions. They are offered unframed; any framed images are for visual inspiration only.

Condition: Very good overall condition with light age toning consistent with period prints and minor handling marks at margins; strong color and clear impressions.

Framing tips: Display beautifully in dark walnut or ebonized frames with generous ivory mats to emphasize the elegant proportions and enhance the Scandinavian aesthetic.

This is an original and NOT a reproduction!
