Antique Portrait Admiral Lord Hawke – British Naval Hero Engraving c.1850
A finely executed and highly decorative mid-19th century engraved portrait of Admiral Edward Hawke, 1st Baron Hawke, one of Britain’s most important naval commanders of the 18th century. Best known for his decisive victory at the Battle of Quiberon Bay (1759), Hawke played a pivotal role in securing British naval supremacy during the Seven Years’ War. This elegant composition presents him in full naval regalia, confidently posed with sword in hand, embodying both authority and maritime command.
The portrait is framed within an elaborate ornamental border characteristic of the celebrated productions of John Tallis & Company.
