This elegant antique ornithological print depicts the *Ardea cinerea*, commonly known as the Grey Heron (Fischreiher in German). The lithograph was created around 1900 and is based on the artwork of E. de Maes, a noted illustrator whose precise and naturalistic renderings enriched many European bird books of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The composition shows two Grey Herons in a tranquil riverside setting. One adult male heron is shown in the foreground, alert and stalking the water’s edge, while a younger bird stands poised on a rock in the background. Two additional herons are seen in flight above the reeds, providing a dynamic sense of movement and habitat context.
