Original Antique Print of Henri IV Equestrian Portrait by F. Roy, circa 1860
A handsome original antique French costume print depicting King Henri IV of France on horseback in a ceremonial equestrian portrait dating from the late sixteenth century.
This plate originates from the French series Costumes civils et militaires des Français à travers les siècles, published in Paris by F. Roy and conceived as a scholarly visual survey of French civil and military dress across the centuries.
The print is titled "Portrait Équestre de Henri IV en 1596" and is based on an engraving by Thomas de Leu after a drawing by Chevignard. Henri IV (1553–1610), the first Bourbon King of France, is shown wearing finely engraved Renaissance armour while mounted on a spirited white horse adorned with richly decorated ceremonial trappings. Holding a marshal's baton, the king is portrayed in an elegant equestrian pose symbolising royal authority and military leadership.
The richly engraved armour, decorative horse caparison, flowing sash and colourful plumes make this one of the most attractive royal equestrian costume plates from the series. It is especially desirable for collectors of French history, Renaissance costume, equestrian portraiture and royal military subjects.
This is a genuine original antique print published circa 1860. It is not a modern reproduction.

Condition:
Good antique condition with age-related toning, scattered foxing, light handling marks and minor wear to the sheet edges, including small binding traces along the left margin. Please study the images carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
