This refined mid-19th century lithograph presents a panoramic view of Clermont-Ferrand in central France, captured from the route d’Issoire. The composition beautifully balances topographical accuracy with the atmospheric qualities of the Romantic landscape tradition.
The work is drawn by Silvant and lithographed by Alphonse Bichebois, one of the leading figures in French topographical printmaking of the period. Published in Paris around 1849, the print reflects the flourishing interest in regional landscapes and picturesque travel imagery during the 19th century.
Dominating the background is the iconic volcanic peak of the Puy de Dôme, rising gently above the rolling hills of the Auvergne region.
