This atmospheric mid-19th century Dutch lithograph offers a panoramic view of the city of New Orleans, titled in Dutch as "Gezigt op de stad Nieuw-Orleans." The print dates from circa 1850 and presents the Mississippi riverfront with its vibrant maritime activity, steamboats, tall ships, and bustling quayside buildings. In the background rises the distinctive architecture of the French Quarter with its towers, likely representing St. Louis Cathedral and adjacent historic structures.

The lithograph technique, popular in the 19th century for its ability to produce clear images with rich tonal variation, is here hand coloured to enhance visual impact. The scene captures the era when New Orleans was the thriving commercial gateway between the Gulf of Mexico and the American interior, filled with riverboats and international trade vessels.
