.. Melanchton - De Hooghe (1701)

Description: Antique portrait titled 'Melanchton'. Portrait of Philipp Melanchthon. Philipp Melanchthon (1497-1560), born Philipp Schwartzerdt, was a German reformer, collaborator with Martin Luther, the first systematic theologian of the Protestant Reformation, intellectual leader of the Lutheran Reformation, and an influential designer of educational systems. He stands next to Luther and Calvin as a reformer, theologian, and molder of Protestantism. As much as Luther, he is the primary founder of Lutheranism. This print originates from 'Historie der kerken en ketteren van den beginne des Nieuwen Testaments tot aan het jaar onses Heeren 1688 ... In het Neederduyts vertaald' by G. Arnold.

Artists and Engravers: Gottfried Arnold (1666 – 1714) was a German Lutheran theologian and historian. Etching by Romeyn de Hooghe.
