About this sheet

Antique print titled 'Baye de la Posession dans l'Isle de la Géorgie Australe'. View of Possession Bay, on the north coast of South Georgia, an island in the southern Atlantic Ocean. Captain James Cook circumnavigated the island in 1775 and made the first landing. Cook claimed the territory for the Kingdom of Great Britain, and named it "the Isle of Georgia" in honour of King George III. This print originates from 'Voyage Dans L'Hemisphere Austral, et Autour Du Monde' by Jacques Cook. Published circa 1780.
