The maker Johann Christoph Weigel, known as Christoph Weigel the Elder (9 November 1654 – 5 February 1725), was a German engraver, art dealer and publisher. He was born at Redwitz, Free imperial city of Eger in Egerland, and died in Nuremberg, aged 70.
This rare pocket calendar was published for the year 1722. It consists of 13 copper engravings in 1 frame. The text is in German. The engravings of the months show different people, like a milkmaid, skaters, hunters, farmers and musici. Rare.
12 calendar sheets with humorous rhymes and pictures of the month corresponding to the respective month with activities typical for each month, 1 additional sheet with "Commemorations of the 1721st year".
Plate: 12 x 17.5 x 10.5 cm each 1 x 18.3 x 22 cm (2 panels put together). Framed & behind glass 78 x 82 cm and protected by acid free matting. Professionally framed but does have a few small scratches in the golden colored outer edges of the frame. Can easily be retouched. No structural damage.
