This mixed-gender composition brings together a variety of expressions, allowing direct comparison between male and female emotional representation. Boilly’s observational brilliance is evident in the subtle distinctions between characters.
An excellent example of Boilly’s physiognomic approach, this plate works particularly well in dialogue with other Grimaces images.
