A striking and highly decorative pair of mid-19th century hand-colored costume lithographs depicting military figures from Japan during the late Edo period. The first print portrays a mounted Japanese general in elaborate ceremonial attire, richly adorned with tasseled horse trappings and formal armor elements, while the second engraving shows musicians of the Japanese infantry carrying traditional military instruments and wearing characteristic uniforms and swords.

These lithographs were produced during the height of European fascination with Japan and East Asian culture, several decades before the full wave of Japonisme swept through Europe. The prints combine ethnographic curiosity with decorative appeal, presenting idealized depictions of Japanese military life and costume intended for a European audience.
